How to set up a web page - Domain Names

First of all, you need to think of a domain name, a domain name may be relevant to your business name or a product that you are trying to sell.

You will need to know if that domain name is available. You can quickly type it in to your address bar on your web browser, or you can go to a domain name server like Domain Zoo and use their facilities to do a search.

Once you have chosen your required domain name you will then need to register it, Domain Zoo is one of my favorites. There are ample to choose from, do a Google Search for "domain name registrations".

Whilst registering your domain name, you will be asked for the domain name owners details, which will include your name/business name, address, phone numbers and email. Part of the registration will also include providing passwords and usernames for future log ins to be able to update your contact details.

If you plan to host your web site at a different location to your domain name then you will need to update the DNS settings at your domain name registration to show your web hosting companies details.

The DNS settings of your domain name are important, as they point the domain name to the hosted web site. The DNS settings are typically in the following format "dns1.YourWebHostingCompany.com" and are enter at you domain name registration.

If you register and host your site at the same business, the business will in most cases automatically point your domain name to the web hosting.

Most domain name servers have the ability to host your web site as well as your domain name and vica versa. You will need to shop around and find out what is the best deal.
